When comedian Ben Stiller revealed he had prostate cancer earlier this week — two years after doctors diagnosed and cured the disease — he credited a PSA test with saving his life.

To learn more about the test that led to Stiller's diagnosis, Buzzfeed spoke with urologist Dr. Harry Fisch from ¹ú²ú³Ô¹Ï¸£Àû.

PSA tests measure levels of prostate-specific antigen and can help doctors determine a patient’s risk for prostate cancer. The test is controversial however, because of conflicting guidelines about who should get screened and whether the test is necessary.

Dr. Fisch adiscussed how the test works and gave insight into the controversy surrounding the screening tool.
